Three tips for selecting area rugs
Area rugs, available in synthetic and natural materials, elevate room decor, regardless of whether hard surface flooring or carpeting.
If you're shopping for area rugs in Independence, MO, you'll find a great selection of styles at KC Floorworx's 35,000-square-foot showroom/warehouse. Use the tips below to help you make a purchasing decision.
1. Choose natural materials.
Jute, sisal, and seagrass rugs, made from biodegradable dried plant fibers, are ideal floor coverings that bring an exciting texture and neutral or warm colors to room decor.
Don't be afraid to "go big" and lay one of these area rugs from wall to wall, especially in a small room. The rugs' natural look and earthy colors pair well with rustic or contemporary decor.
2. Position furniture properly.
Use your furniture to guide proper placement and size for large rugs that do not span the entire room.
Some furniture, like a dining room table and chairs, can be entirely placed on the rug, but this may not be possible with a grouping such as a coffee table, sofa, and chairs. Then position the large pieces of furniture so that at least the front legs are on the area rug.
3. A runner may be best.
Typical round or square area rugs are not your only option; a runner rug may be the perfect addition to room decor. Place this long, rectangular rug in a galley kitchen, at the sides of a bed, or in a hallway.
The space at the two long sides of the rug, an area akin to a border, should measure 4 to 5 inches to create clean lines that offer an organized, tidy look.
